Never had a blog post had much to report of the day that occurs between 2am and 6am, but today was "different".
I was sharing a room with Marcelo and Kay (already nicknamed "precious" because of her compulsion to Google the life and spontaneity out of everything in order to try and meet perfect expectations).
At 3am, she flips on the lights and says "Guy's, we have bed bugs!". She was scratching her hands and claimed the skin on her legs was bitten too. Apparently she had an no less that than 5 crawling up the wall when she woke. Marcelo immediately saw one on his sleeping bag, but try as I might I found none in my bed. I was the only one of the 3 of us who was sleeping in the sheets and blankets provided by the hostal.
Trying to find the owner was kinda impossible despite giving ourselves a tour of every open room in the building... so I reached outside the front door and pressed the doorbell, twice. Yes, that pretty much woke the whole place, including the very annoyed owner.
He sent his wife to deal with us. She found no evidence of bedbug in the room except that which we'd squashed in a was of toilet paper, and tried to say wed 5 brought them with us. (I couldn't rule that out in all honesty. ) she gave us two new rooms and offered to put all our stuff in the dryer on hot, for 30 minutes in the morning.
Marcelo and I went back to sleep. Kay doesn't the night Googleing bedbug stuff and traumatizing herself even more. By the morning her itching was worse despite the antihistamines and we had to conclude that Precious had two issues. 1. Bug bites. 2. Inability to let go of it in her mind and therefore, making it worse.
Is it bad that I was keen to leave her to her angst ridden Camino and continue mine without her?
It was a cold and rainy day. With the late start, rain and lack of sleep, I decided to have my main pack transported. Dear God! The Camino is soooo much easier without a pack!
And really I didn't get too wet until the lady 200 meters of a 25 km day... when I couldn't find the darn alburgue! Hahaha .
One more night til the Parador....
And tomorrow, arriving in León, marks the end of a significant stage in the Camino for me. Also seeing Pierre again! ☺
