The Serengeti. Aahhhhh...

 She's a hot one!

We started out from our delicious resort at 7:30am or 8-ish. Our drive took us along the rim of Ngorongoro Crater and it was a good day for pics looking down into it!

I know there was a plan but since I was unaware of it, I felt anxious arriving at the Serengeti around noon. We joined 2 dozen other Toyota Land Cruiser safari vehicles and entered the National Park that makes up just a fraction of the Serengeti - "endless plains" sweeping north through Kenya.

It didn't take long before animals were here, there and everywhere. Gazelles, elephant, giraffe, zebra and eventually lions -with cubs - sleeping in hard to come by shade.

Later, even 3 cheetahs on the road! And by road I mean a dirt, off-roady situation, an airborne dust manufacturer, the second a vehicle passed. Patience is virtue in Tanzania. Pole Pole is a way of life and a practiced mindset. Waiting for the dust to settle is not mandatory, but good luck with pictures if you don't. It's already hard enough to focus on beige, tan, black and white creatures moving through the dirt, grass and stick-ish environment! Here, Hakuna Matata means something... it's not just a line in a Disney movie.

Our "home" for tonight was Empalaakai Lodge (tented) inside Serengeti. It lavished on us phenomenal  food and hospitality.

Sue and I were in tent 2A - At the far side of the camp, filled with lurking danger! Guests like us are not allowed to wander freely. We have walkie-talkies in our room to call for an escort back and forth to the main area during dark hours.

"Hello? Hello... this is 2A. Can we have an escort to dinner, please?"  LOL

During the night our vicinity was amply visited ... Guessing wilderbeest or zebra and also elephants. What crawled under our floor outside at 2am and scratched around, is anyone's guess though! Twice I unzipped our front door and dared to peak outside. Nada. Broken branches and animal poo in the morning suggested I was on the right track though.
