First Camping Trip... Short but very sweet

It was a test of gear, character and collaboration!

Scott and I assembled our collective camp gear in record time and took to the hills one Sunday afternoon for a quick overnight at 10,000'. The original plan was Rainbow Lakes but it turns out that road opens June 1st and today... was May 31st!

You know your partner is a good one when pivoting to a new plan (or watching the first plan die) is not a big deal. No drama, no problem. We found Gordon Gulch near by and after a little off-roading, dispersed camping in the woods became the most beautiful end to a busy day.

A ground squirrel welcomed us. Birds to sang to us and the clouds billowed by, letting in just enough sunshine to keep it warm up there.

We set up the tent and rounded out the afternoon with a game of Nertz, cheese and crackers and wine!

Then it was time to cook...

Isn't he cute?!

Us campers are resourceful folk... when a wobbly situation arises, necessity is the mother of invention!

So... car camping; It's very luxurious! I was loving this quiet evening watching the stars make their appearance with the glow of our tent beneath.

The temp had dipped and I got cold hands but that it was worth it to capture the essence of why we camp.

The next morning, after a super cozy night, we lolled about a bit then Chef Scott served up delicious egg scramble burritos for breakfast #1. (Fuel for the camping pack-up exercise)

Breakfast #2 was banana stuffed with Lindt chocolate and crunchy peanut butter, warm and melty from the skillet. Dallice's happy place, obviously. It fueled us for the Rainbow Lakes hike that followed.

Yep, the road is open (campground not til mid month) and I might have been the first to use the trailhead loos. Look, the t.p. still has the wrapper on it!
