Day 11: Villamayor del Camino to Villafranco d'Oca

You know how delightful it is when you arrive in a place and see unexpected and familiar faces? That was today.

There were pilgrims on the trail behind and in front of us for most of the day... even in the dark, early this morning. We watched the sun come up, slowly lighting up the contrails and setting the fields aglow in gold. Ahead, a fog was rising and being blown away.  It was cold enough to warrant a sweatshirt and gloves at around 8am.

It was 9 am before tortilla and coffee could be found in Belorado.

The journey wasn't breathtaking today. Rolling hills through fields of cut hay... and the sound of birds feasting on dried sunflowers was not unpleasant though.

We arrived at 1 pm at Villafranca and quickly settled into the good life. Last year I took a room in the hotel part, but this year I wanted to experience the albergue.

€5 for a bunk bed in a room of 20
€8 for a bunk bed in a room of 8
€10 for a single bed in a room of 15

I took the room of 8. Best chance of no snorers! Sadly, that gamble didn't pay off as later someone informed me that the 3 old Swedish ladies had also picked my room. They had a reputation and it wasn't for sleeping quietly!

I spent the afternoon sitting in the rose garden with the 6 resident cats. Had a lovely chat with Mark and an unexpected one with Greg too. Then a quiet dinner with Pierre and another couple from Quebec before turning in early.

My feet were great, the blister gone, no injuries to report. All is good... except that I miss home and Mark quite a bit.

Today I walked 35,254 steps and about 17 miles.  At the end of day 11, I have about 525 kilometers to Santiago.
